The elevation decides not only about the aesthetics
and style of the whole house, but above all about the comfort of building use,
durability and tightness of the entire structure. In a newly built house, the
possibilities of choosing the right finish for exterior walls suited to our
tastes are almost limitless. Flat
sheet metal is more and more often used.
Flat sheet on the facade
of the house
There are many variants
of finishing the facade of the house, although not all enjoy the same
popularity. This is the
unappreciated way to finish the facade with flat plate. It is a material successfully used for
roofing - but it is rarely seen on elevations. In single-family houses flat plate is
used rather on fragments of the facade, to emphasize architectural details. Although you can find houses with
facades entirely finished with flat plate.
Types of sheet metal
The material from which
the sheet is made affects the cost of the façade, its durability and, of
course, appearance. Usually,
galvanized steel sheets are laid on the elevations and covered with a
protective coating (giving it a color) or zinc-titanium.Modern technologies
have made flat sheet more durable and appear in attractive colors. It is usually sold in lengths of 2- 3 m or
in rolls up to 16 m in length and 50 cm in width , while the height of the seam is
usually 32 mm . You
can also buy panels or coffers with latches on the edges of the standing seam. Flat sheet is usually available in
shades of gray, graphite, dark shades of red, green and brown.
Steel plate. This is the most popular tin coating. Steel sheet itself is prone to rust,
which is why it is protected with protective layers that increase its
durability, it is determined even for 40-50 years (depending on the type of
protective layer and sheet thickness). Such
a flat plate usually has a thickness of 0.5- 0.7
mm and is usually galvanized on
both sides. Additionally, it is
protected by a plastic coating, e.g. polyurethane or polyvinyl. This solution allows to increase the
sheet resistance to atmospheric factors and give it a nice look. Steel sheet is made of Aluzinc
galvanized steel, i.e. an aluminum, zinc and silicon alloy. Aluzinc sheet is more resistant to
corrosion than galvanized sheet, because it has self-healing properties, eg it
can be vulcanised in places of scratches.
Zinc-titanium sheet. It is a plate, which is one hundred zinc (about 99%) and titanium (about
1%). The durability of the
titanium sheet is evaluated for 100-120 years, with time covered with a
protective layer - patina. There
are natural or pre-patinated sheets on the market that give the metal sheet a
characteristic noble appearance. 1
m² of zinc-titanium sheet weighs 4.5-5.8 kg ,
its thickness is 0.65- 0.8 m .
Installation of flat
sheet on the facade
The flat plate is
mounted to the system grid (wooden, steel, aluminum) attached to the insulated
wall. The grate can be single,
double or triple. It is selected
for the type of cladding, building block and window and door openings - the
designer makes the calculations with the producer and contractor.
