Today's flat sheet metal
is distinguished by high quality and a wide range that will meet the needs of
many investors.
Roof covering with flat
sheet
Flat sheet is available
today in many attractive types. New
production technologies have also made it more durable and present in
attractive colors. Therefore,
both investors and architects are eager for it. It covers roofs, with an angle of
inclination from 4 ° to even 90 °, because it belongs to the few coverings that
can be used to cover vertical parts of the façade. The flat plate is sold, usually in
sheets of 2- 3 m length or in coils up to 16 m in
length. You can also buy panels,
for example, zinc-titanium sheet with snaps on the edges of the standing seam.
Steel plate
It belongs to the most
popular sheet metal covers. In
itself, it is susceptible to rust, which is why it is protected with protective
layers that increase durability of the covering. Thanks to this, the durability of this
coating is determined even for 40-50 years, depending on the type of protective
layer and sheet thickness. Such a
flat plate usually has a thickness of 0.5- 0.7
mm . Most often it is galvanized on both
sides. Additionally, it is
protected by a plastic coating, eg polyurethane or polyvinyl. Steel sheet is made of galvanized
steel with Al-Zn coated aluminum, zinc and silicon. Aluzinc sheet is more resistant to
corrosion than galvanized sheet, because it has self-healing properties, eg it
can vulcanize in places of scratches.
Copper plate
This is the most durable
of the known roofing materials; can
last up to 300 years. However,
due to the high price, in single-family houses, it is rarely used. It works great as a cover for eg. Copper sheet, under the influence of
atmospheric factors, overlaps with patina in a characteristic - first brown,
then black, and finally green - color. Patina
is a protective layer that significantly increases the durability of the
material. Plaster-patinated
sheets are also produced, so that the roof does not change its appearance over
time.
Aluminum sheet
Coatings of this metal
are light - 1 m² weighs 1.7-3 kg . Their thickness is 0.6- 0.7 mm . Aluminum
flat sheets are easy to process as well as resistant to corrosion and
mechanical damage. The durability
of the cover made of them is estimated at about 50 years. The aluminum is coated with a
protective passivation layer, and then from the bottom with an epoxy varnish,
on the other hand with a colored polyester coating resistant to UV radiation. Remember that when assembling the
aluminum cover, do not use copper elements for fixing it, as metals do not
interact well.
Flat zinc-titanium sheet
Zinc sheets, whose
durability is estimated at 30 years, are hardly used in single-family houses. Also in this case, protective coatings
are used to increase the durability of the sheet. However, zinc-titanium sheets are
available, which are zinc alloy (approx. 99%) and 1% titanium. This flat sheet, commonly referred to
as the titan, is much more durable (100-120 years) than zinc, but also much
more expensive. These sheets,
like copper, overlap over time with a protective layer - patina. Zinc-titanium natural or
pre-artificially patinated sheets are available on the market, giving the metal
sheet a characteristic noble appearance.A typical feature of zinc-titanium
sheets is the reaction with impregnating salts, which should be soaked in their
wooden undercoat. Failure to
apply a special separation membrane, especially on horizontal elements, will
lead to rapid corrosion of such sheet. 1
m² of zinc-titanium sheet weighs 4.5-5.8 kg ,
its thickness is 0.65- 0.8 m
