Cleaning the façade

The plastered façade requires regular care treatments from us. If the plaster is not cracked and requires no major repair action, the walls need to be washed thoroughly. Facade cleaning - what is worth knowing?

Cleaning the façade

The walls of the house get dirty more quickly, the house is closer to a busy road or industrial buildings. The rain will not do everything for us. Also, when the building has no eaves that protects the walls, they are more exposed to dirt. It is also worth knowing that more often you will need to clean the façade, covered with old mineral plaster. New silicate, silicone and acrylic plasters, thanks to ingredients contained in it, are less susceptible to dirt and are easier to clean. The effort of works devoted to cleaning the facade of dirt will also depend on the structure of the plaster - the more porous, the more dirt settles on it and the harder it is to clean it.

Cleaning the façade with a pressure washer

Plastified walls are best washed with pressurized water. For washing with a pressure washer, we use a dispersed stream of water with the addition of detergent, eg washing up liquid. Cleaning the facade covered with plaster can be done using a solution at a temperature no higher than 60 ° C and its pressure can not exceed 60 bar. Otherwise, we can damage the outer layer of the walls. Let's also check what distance of the nozzle from the wall surface will provide the best effect. We clean the plaster starting from the upper part of the walls, gradually descending downwards. With circular motions, several times pour water over the individual parts of the walls, paying particular attention to heavily soiled areas. You can also first wash the façade with water and then with the addition of foaming agents. Often after washing the façade, it is necessary to paint it.

Cleaning of the facade of the raids

In addition to ordinary pollution, it happens that we can also find discolorations on the façade. Gray and green raids may suggest the presence of algae, fungi, mosses and lichens. This phenomenon usually occurs on the northern and western wall.Their development, increases moisture and improper drainage of water from the roof. It is also worth knowing that mineral plasters are not protected against the accumulation of mold and fungi. Facade cleaning with surface impurities can be carried out using a soft brush. However, we will significantly improve our work - pressure washer. For the eradication of deposits, chemical and algaecides will be necessary. It is important that they can also prevent the re-development of microorganisms on the plaster. When applying them, special precautions must be taken and a protective dress will be required.

Facade cleaning: when not to use the washer

Dust and dust are easily removed from the walls with a pressure washer. Remember, however, not to use this method of cleaning, if you see cracks in the plaster - the water will get into the wall. It is better to donate a washcloth, even when the plaster is weak - it could worsen its condition even more. Dirt that the washer did not handle must be removed by hand scrubbing. For washing, let's use warm water with an admixture of cleaning liquid and a hard, wide brush.

Security measures

After washing the walls, the plaster should be impregnated so that dirt does not settle on it so quickly. At the moment, special formulations containing Teflon, silicone or silicate are available. Modern plasters, especially organic thin-layer plasters, are characterized not only by very high durability. Unfortunately, it is not possible to say about old mineral plasters. The time comes that they start to crack or break away from the wall. On the facades, there are also rust stains or other stains, the paint starts to peel, and where it does, mildew begins to develop. This all heralds the need for repair, which is better not to delay. Before starting repairs, it is worth diagnosing the façade. You need to look at the condition of the paint, whether you see dirt, where there are scratches and cracks on the plaster. As soon as the condition of the plaster arouses your suspicions, carefully tap it to make sure that in some places it has not been removed from the wall. For such a test, a ladder will be useful, because the qualifying qualities of the façade for repairs may be high.
