What to plaster walls and ceilings?

What plaster to choose for interior, plaster or cement? Every investor faces such a question. The answer is not obvious and depends on individual expectations and possibilities, as well as on the destination of specific rooms.

What should you consider when making your choice?

· The aesthetic effect that we want to achieve: smooth, structural, rough or maybe mixed walls?

More smooth walls, better rendering the colors of paints, we get using plaster plasters. In order to achieve this effect, cement plasters will require filling the wall surface with plaster gypsum at least twice. If you want a rough surface, the obvious choice is cement-lime plasters. The structure is easier to achieve thanks to gypsum or gypsum-lime plasters.

KNAUF - plasters for interior walls

· Resistance to scratches and mechanical damage

Cement-lime plasters are usually more resistant to scratches than gypsum plasters, but Knauf MP 75 L Diamant plaster plaster , thanks to a special recipe, does not give way to cement-lime plasters in this respect, while maintaining the values of all plaster plasters.

· Indoor climate and indoor air quality

This is the main value of gypsum plasters, which thanks to the gypsum's hygroscopic properties, absorb moisture when the air is too moist and give off excess moisture when the air becomes too dry. Thus, they regulate the interior climate at the most human-friendly level. Thanks to this, we perceive such interiors as warm and cozy.

· Reaction to indoor moisture

Cement-lime plasters absorb moisture very slowly and very slowly give it to the environment, which does not result in positive regulation of air humidity in standard rooms, but it is an unquestionable advantage in rooms not heated in winter, partially heated and intensively used, eg garages, basements, commercial buildings or industrial kitchens or steam baths where the air humidity exceeds 70%.

· Time of investment implementation

It should be remembered how long the technological process of laying and drying plasters is going on. Plaster plaster is applied in one layer to the primed and dry substrate that dries daily, multi-layered cement-lime plaster is applied to the dried spray, which dries on ceramic substrates for a few days and on concrete substrates, such as 2-3 weeks ceilings. 1.5 cm gypsum plaster dries for approx. Two weeks, cement and lime plaster with the same thickness of approx. 4 weeks.

Therefore, the choice of, for example, gypsum plaster for heated living spaces in the winter to obtain smooth surfaces, pleasant interior climate and due to the shorter completion time of the investment is as good as the choice of cement and lime plaster for the garage and basement, and even for residential interiors, just because we want to get industrial, rough surfaces, for example in fashionable lofts. Of course, another combination of our motivations is also possible in deciding whether to choose one or the other type of plaster.

GYPSUM PLASTICS

If we are already deciding on gypsum plasters, then we still have different products to choose from. Which one is best to choose? It again depends on the specific circumstances and our further preferences.

Large areas and short completion time

In this case, the machine plaster plasters Knauf MP 75 and Knauf MP 75L are best, the second one is slightly lighter and thus easier to process.

If we care about the increased material efficiency, it is worth using Knauf MP 75 SL. Its consumption per m2 with a standard thickness of 10 mm is only 7 kg . It brings about specific savings, especially on large areas, which obviously translates into finances.

Necessarily plaster, but resistant to scratches

Here the choice is unambiguous: Knauf MP 75 Diaman, which after laying and drying is the hardest gypsum plaster available on the Polish market. Recommended especially for public utility buildings, where due to the high volume of users' traffic , the walls are more vulnerable to mechanical damage. It is also a good choice for a home with small children. This plaster is applied by machine.

Necessarily plaster, but not smooth

Knauf MP 75 LF Invoice

The architects overwhelm the monotony of the recently fashionable, minimalist interiors by introducing an invoice to them. This also applies to walls. In the case of gypsum plasters, each of them can not be smoothed in the last stage, but make an invoice, imprinting in a moist plaster, for example, a trowel. We will achieve a more subtle visual effect using Knauf MP 75 LF Invoice, which thanks to the content of limestone aggregate allows to obtain a surface with a texture of fine sand. Surfaces can be painted multiple times for any color, each time with a different color, without destroying the invoice. Calcareous aggregate is present in the whole plaster section.

Plaster for wall heating

We plan wall heating and we do not know what plaster will work in this case. Of course, you will need a plaster that will conduct heat well inside, and does not deform and crack under the influence of heat. Such features have Knauf MP 75 G / F Therm plaster and plaster, thanks to a suitable recipe combining two minerals: gypsum and lime.

Plasters for renovation

KANUF - ROTBAND

KANUF - GOLDBAND

In a situation where it is not possible to use a plastering aggregate or as a part of savings renovation we carry out ourselves, you can reach for hand plaster plaster: Rotband and Goldband. Rotband has an increased adhesion parameter, which is why it is recommended especially for non-absorbent concrete surfaces of ceilings or elements made of precast concrete. Goldband can be used on any rough substrate, but it works best as a renovation plaster.

CEMENT AND LIME PLASTERS

Cement-lime plaster Knauf Cover Slow

If we decide on cement and lime plasters, do not try to save on the material, mixing cement and lime on the construction site.We will not be able to obtain the same, repeatable quality of plastering mortar in the whole building, which will be seen later on the walls and ceilings. The guarantee of repeatable quality is provided by the factory-prepared dry mix of Knauf Cover Slow cement plaster, containing laboratory proportions of ingredients defined in the production process, strictly preserved in the production process. The plaster recipe has been formulated so that it can also be applied by machine.

The final effect and usability

Regardless of the choice made, the final effect will depend on adherence to the rigors of plastering technology. Remember to prepare the substrate properly, prime it in the case of gypsum plasters, perform work at + 5 ° C and properly ventilate the rooms until the plasters dry.
