All façade works are
usually carried out during the summer and autumn, when the aura favors this
type of robots. However, taking
into account the capricious weather conditions in our country, it is worth
being prepared for variable temperatures, or increased rainfall, which may
disrupt the renovation of the façade. Marek
Siemieniewski, Product Manager - Thermal insulation systems at Baumit, talks
about preventive measures while conducting elevation works during unexpected
rainfall.

In the case when there
is a high probability of precipitation, special care should be taken when
making the final layers of the thermal insulation system, i.e. when applying
structural plaster or painting with façade paint. However, it is worth remembering that
the rain or hail can make big damage. One
of the most popular preventive measures during a rainy aura is securing the
places of thermal insulation with tarpaulins and tunnels protecting the walls
from water access, until the maturing of the applied materials is finished.
An excellent solution
preventing the flow of silicone or acrylic plaster during rainfall is the use
of an additive to accelerate the binding of these Baumit Speed Top plasters. The additive accelerates bonding, so that within 4 to 6 hours after
application(depending on temperature and humidity), early rain resistance is
obtained, which reduces the risk of runoff of the plaster from the façade.

Fixing thermal
insulation boards should not be done on a heavily soaked base, because the
moisture contained in the wall increases the proportion of water in the mortar
and thus reduces its binding strength and adhesion. Also, do not allow thermal insulation
to get wet. This is especially
dangerous in the case of mineral wool. This
material is very absorbent and moisture will reduce the thermal insulation to a
minimum. Moisture content will
cause unsightly salinity on the façade surface. It is worth remembering not to apply
structural plaster on a damp reinforcement layer. This type of action can cause salting
on the surface of the plaster, as well as limit the adhesion between the layers.
Waterproof water-based
materials - silicates and organic products, popular silicone and acrylic
plasters and paints are particularly allergic to moisture and precipitation. These materials are usually colored in
bulk, which definitely raises the danger of blurring the color and breaking
down the structure under the influence of high humidity. It is also worth remembering that
during elevated humidity the bonding time of facade materials increases. On the other hand, in the case of
mineral materials - adhesive mortars, reinforcing plasters and plasters -
hydraulically binding, intensive atmospheric precipitation can destroy the work
performed, as well as prolonging the interval between the application of
individual coatings. The layered
construction of the thermal insulation system means that the application of
each subsequent layer should be applied to a completely dry surface.
