Cement tiles are similar
to ceramic tiles. They are made
of cheaper materials and using simpler production technology. Their price is much lower than the
original clay.
The cement tiles that
are currently produced on the roof are indistinguishable from ceramic ones. Their technical parameters are also
similar today - the durability of ceramic roof tiles is estimated to be about
100 years, although many of them are longer on the roof for a longer time, and
cement ones for 70-100 years. Therefore,
the choice depends more on our preferences and preferences. In addition to basic roof tiles, a
good manufacturer has in its offer, also ridge roof tiles, extreme, ventilation
and other elements needed for laying covered
Cement tiles - material
from the dryer
The basic raw material
for the production of cement roof tiles is a mixture of quartz sand, cement,
water and pigments that give the color, which allows to give the same color in
the entire cross-section of the covering. Thanks
to this, even a chipped or trimmed tile. It
does not reveal what its predecessors from the past, gray concrete ruins. The shape of the tile is obtained in a
suitable form. Drying takes place
in chambers designed for this purpose. To
obtain a smooth and non-absorbent surface, tiles usually overlap with two
layers of acrylic paint: the first is applied to the molded elements before the
mass can bind and the other - completely dried. In addition to such a finish, cement
tiles usually are colored in bulk.
Material for cement roof
tiles
In contrast to ceramic
tiles that are long-fired, at very high temperatures, cement tiles are not so
energy-intensive. Quite the
opposite - during the drying chemical roofs during the drying process, heat is
generated, which additionally allows to keep the right temperature in the
dryer. Also used for the
production of roof tiles water, circulates in a closed circuit, which has a
positive impact on the natural environment.
Cement roofing tiles -
an important weight
The weight of the cement
cover is 35-50 kg
/ m². Significant weight -
although on average smaller than ceramic roof tiles - not only has a positive
effect on the use of the attic, but also is important during the gale, more and
more common in our climate.Cement tiles, as heavy and small-format elements, do
not easily yield strong gusts of wind. In
addition, cement tiles are non-flammable, non-absorbable, frost-resistant -
they withstand 100 freezing and thawing cycles - and resistant to UV radiation.
Shapes and colors
The offer of cement tile
shapes is smaller than ceramic ones. Are
produced, among others single and
double scissors, double Roman, Old German, and rectangular or carpeted tiles. The most common colors are various
shades of red and brown, gray, graphite and black. The surface can be matte, semi-matt or
glossy.
Cement tiles - important
locks
Cement tiles are
equipped with side locks, and sometimes also with a top (front) lock. They facilitate the laying of tiles,
and also affect the tightness of the roofing, because they prevent the water
from flowing under the tiles.
On what roof?
Cement roofing tiles are
usually laid on roofs, with an inclination angle of 22-60 °, but they can also
be covered with roofs, with a smaller slope (even with an inclination angle of
10 °), laying them on full boarding, covered with roofing felt or foil, after
applying additional seal. They
can be mounted on roofs with a larger slope, with an inclination angle greater
than 60 ° (even vertical), fastening each tile to wooden patches.
